Add this to your endangered species list: The point-and-shoot camera. Smartphones are the major reason why. It's always with you. There's no need to plug it in and upload photos. You can easily share photos with friends and family. Smartphones are loaded with tons of different apps, such as Camera Bag, Oldcamera, and the trendy Hipstamatic.
Smartphone sales continue to rise, while point-and-shoot cameras fell by as much as 16 percent from 2008. Sales of DSLRs, used by professionals and ammeter enthusiasts, continued to rise as well.
And according to data provided by the photo-sharing site Flickr, of its 55 million users, the most popular camera of choice is the smartphone. Next on the list? DSLRs from Canon and Nikon. Point-and-shoot camera didn't even crack their top five.
Technology is moving extremely fast. I shutter (no pun intended) to think what we will have in twenty years.
