A little harsh, but mostly true

I was recently able to see the movie that I have been waiting for years to see. It was filmed about 3 years ago and only released in theaters in few major cities in the U.S. The film is titled Street Dreams, a film about street skateboarders and some struggles they face. The film takes place somewhere in the Midwest where skateboarding culture goes less noticed. The film centers around Derreck Cabrera an up and coming skater who is trying to make a name for himself and get sponsored.

The film was written by popular skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, who also stars in the film. Much like majority of the main cast they are all real life professional skateboarders. This was done so that real skateboarding could be done throughout the movie not just actors who have no knowledge of the sport. This makes the movie have a real feel to it, along with the low budget (coming mostly out of Dyrdek's own pocket). The movie is not a flashy high budget drama film that portrays skaters in the wrong light and is the only one of its kind
